I wanna turn a concert tom into a regular tom Last viewed: 40 minutes ago

I need of of the opinions i can get, so i have this Rogers swiv-o-matic drum kit and it comes with concert toms, i had both rack toms but i lost the smaller one which was a 12x8 tom, but i still have the other one and i've thinking to make it into a regular tom cuz i don't like how it looks without the bottom rim and head, i can just qet the lugs, rim and everything i need from ebay but i kinda need to know what you guys think, is it a good idea???

ALSO I NOTICED ALL TOMS HAVE A HOLE ON A SIDE SO THAT THE AIR CAN SCAPE THROUGH THERE AND THIS CONCERT TOM DOES NOT!!! D:, SHOULD I ALSO DRILL THAT HOLE????, WILL IT AFFECT THE SOUND OF THE TOM????

It can be done and has been done but not gonna look factory.

Can you show us a pic with the mount showing ?

Not a bad idea,concert toms are not that collectible,and you are probably adding value,it is pretty easy to do,esp if the bottom/reso side has a bearing edge already,and it is in good shape.

The bearing edge should already be there. If not, Bernie Stone at Stone Custom Drum is the best in the binness.

Take off the top lugs; put a strip of masking tape that goes from the very top to the very bottom and centered over the top lug's holes; take a T-square and draw a line on the tape from top to bottom with the T-square directly over the center of the top lug's holes; measure (I use a dial caliper) the top hole's distance from the bearing edge and mark the line the same distance up from the bottom; measure the distance of the lower hole from the top hole; mark the line accordingly on the bottom; drill a couple of pilot holes; then drill the actual diameter holes and she's done.

I most recently did a couple of '74 Ludwigs and a previous poster was right: They didn't look like factory. The new ones were actually STRAIGHT in relation to the bearing edges.

i did loose one drum, i had both, but we moved and when we got to our new home i kinda hot into soccer a lot and didn't care for the drums that much, i know my dad most likely threw it away like he throws away a lot of my crap cuz he's too lazy to bend over and pick it up but he won't admit to doing it, and yeah, i'll make sure to have som pics up soon, thanks

it's in good shape and it does have a bearing edge, thanks for the advice, i wasn't so sure i was doing the right thing, i kinda thought i was going to ruin a colectable valuable item but i guess not

thanks for taking the time to explain all that to me man, i'll do it like that in case i'm feeling creative, but if not i'll just have a good friend of mine drill the holes for me, he's a good carpenter, she should be able to get the job done, thanks again!

thanks, i think i'm still gonna go for it, if i ruin them oh well, i still have the bass drum and floor tom in mint condition, i looked them up on ebay, they're about 300 dlls each, it's a butcher block finish, swiv-o-matic hardware, i'll make sure to have some pictures up when i get my hands on a good camera
