hello all, i bought a ludwig snare for £20 of a guy. said it'd been sitting in his garage for two years after he found it in the road. he knows nothing about drums so i was hoping someone could help identify what type it is. iv tried looking up the serial code but with no luck. its black in colour, maybe a black beauty? thank you fellow drummers!

Yes nice 6.5 snare. Black beauty sitting on the side of the road?

I would say the year is around 1985ish.

Monroe badge so after 1984 when they moved from Chicago.

I have a couple of kits from 1984 the last of Chicago era and the numbers are 3118xxx

oh and welcome

I'd guess it was a bit later. Ludwig dropped the Black Beauty model for a few years right around 1984. I'm not sure exactly when they brought it back after the move to Monroe but I think it was around 1990 give or take a year or two. This is probably one of the earlier Monroe BB's though.

Quite a drum to find by the side of the road. Either someone had no clue what they had or else someone really pulled a stupid move during a load out. Or it fell out of a vehicle (although it doesn't look to have suffered the sort of damage that would likely inflict).
