Identifying Rogers-any good? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hi all. First post.

I stumbled on this set and wondering if it is any good. I'm intrigued with owning a "vintage" kit, and I'm hoping I might have found a decent deal. But if it's garbage, I'll pass.

Here's the ad:

Not garbage, but not vintage USA Rogers. Import Yamaha shells. That being said, Yamaha had contract with Rogers to build sets for them that actually sounded decent. Hard to tell, but looks like the better build era. Worth a look for that money, but not the "collectible" shell Rogers most vintage players are looking for.

I believe these are standard run-of-the-mill Taiwan luan. Not affiliated with Yamaha, and I'd even say possibly Hoshino-built. The Rogers/ Yamaha drums did not have 7/8 pipe mounts. If I'm wrong-someone PLEASE correct me. There is a good comparison between Yamaha-built R360/ 380 from 68/69 and the later luan drums from 1980 on the VDG

I believe these are the early 80s import drums, made when Rogers USA was still the thing.

Worth $200 as a complete kit..

But not collectable...

Look for the same kit with Oval badges not the retangler shape ones...

The last set built for Gina Schock in 1982 were a six piece Ebony finish two up, two down, single bass drum set. XP8 Eight Ply all maple shells, the receivers on the two toms were cut off, and only the fastener holes were drilled in the shell. The corresponding tom arms were also cut. These were the only toms built like this according to John Cermenaro, the production chief at Rogers in 1982. in January 1983 a couple of snare drums were custom built for Gina, one of which I own. In 2012, I met Gina Schock and we talked about her time as a Rogers endorser. She had very fond memories of Rogers. This snare drum.............
