Self teaching & learning to drum in high school, this song showed me you don't have to hit 16th notes on the high hat all the time. Big "AHA" moment actually.

Interesting in the video link that takes you to the song in youtube, he is playing on a set of timbales for toms. Rogers had a setup out during that time, but hard to tell if rest are them with fuzzy video.

Amosguy you are oh so correct so much was so original back then you could play how you wanted , now days seems folks would tell you this would not be correct but hey it is all correct dare to be different I always play fills on vocals but i do so tastefully i think and have never had a singer complain also love fills inbetween.... and there are many songs where 8th notes work just fine and some like rock and roll that require the 32.... :)

Talking of filling on the vocals, the new mastodon album, the hunter. Brad dailor is a fine example of doing just that. Very busy, lots of fills, but nothing that is obtrusive to the singing.

Drums are loud....So play them LOUD!!!

Cool article, I hadn't read that before. I just recall talking with Ron some years ago (we both endorsed Impact drums) and him mentioning that. It stuck with me, because I assumed he'd be playing a US kit. Japanese drums weren't very prevalent among pros prior to 1970 or so.Bermuda

The fact that you had a conversation with RB blows my mind!

See, this why this forum is so amazing. The facts, information and history that are told and shared here is priceless. Makes me wonder what other untold stories are yet to be revealed?

Thanks Bermuda for that bit of historic information.

The IB were in a movie called "musical mutiny", usually double-billed with "weekend rebellion" starring Grand Funk. The IB jam at a amusement park! Check it out!

He seems to have gone his own way not just re playing Pearl in ancient times, but he also drove an NSU Prinze.

Haven't heard of them in a while.
