Hi there... My first 'kit' was a Marius Renatus and resembled the one you have

My dad bought it for me in 1965 (he played drums and sang in a local booogie woogie band). I hated it at the time ! I wanted a Ludwig or similar like Ringo (Beatles) and not something that looked like it came out of a musuem. Anyway, my dad cut the bass drum and somehow managed to create a more up to date look ... little did I know that I was destroying something valuable and that I would regret ever having done this .... Marius Renatus was a Belgian (mostly marching drums and such.. ) 'factory' and it seems the outfit was closed well before Word War Two .... SONORUS still exists (in Brussels, Belgium) and can easily be found on the internet ... (Sonorus.be) - all info however in Ducth and/por French .. No English. Sonorus are still making customs drums (on order only). This is my first post on this site and I have (hope I succeeded) attached a picture of a local (Antwerp, Belgium) drummer in late 60ties playing on a Marius Renatus

For the record : I am still active (age 61 lol ... ) in a local cover band (website http://www.orangetheband.be - also on youtube (old video dates back to 1967 = local festival : tags : Jazz Bilzen 1967 the mods)

Cheers and enjoy this beatiful oldtimer !!

Never seen a throwoff and butt assembly like that before, either! What are the two little yellow bakelite things? Inlets for electric wires for a heater, perhaps? Please take a picture of the bottom of the snare drum showing the snare wires, too.

I thought the throw looks oddly like the Fibes SFT! Albeit slightly more primitive.

Judging by the setup of the kit, chances are it would have been used in an Orchestra Pit setting (Theaters, Concert/Dance Halls). I've found a few references the Renatus drums were used in the construction of Calliopes and other mechanical musical contraptions.

example:

http://catalog.greyflannelauctions.com/LotDetail.aspx?lotid=18385

Looks like you will need to construct a connecting rod/bar for the throw.

The throw action would be similar to a Premier FlowBeam.
