I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me find out anything about an old 4-piece shell set that has come my way. I know nothing about its history apart from the fact it is at least 25 years old (probably older) and it has been used for teaching. The decals are all gone, as has the bass drum resonant head, so there's no obvious branding.
The biggest clue to its identity is that the head are branded Samick. Samick is a Korean make and the shells all have little stickers reading 'Made in Korea'. There is a Samick bass drum on German Ebay [ame="http://www.ebay.de/itm/Bassdrum-22-Samick-mit-REMO-Fellen-/171932001151?nma=true&si=1HwJtFKm0PFWbzF9lfbriAqQNNU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557"]here[/ame] which looks very similar indeed but not identical - lugs are different and the decals don't look like the type that was originally on this kit.
Although all the aluminium decals have been removed at some point, there are some tiny remnants remaining that seem to have an orange and black design on them which I've not been able to find a match for anywhere. From the residual marks it looks like they were pentagon/'house' shaped - as opposed to the rectangular black and white design shown on the Ebay drum.
Other clues would be the fairly distinctive design on the lugs; a hole for a single-post tom holder (the holder itself is sadly lost), and white plastic knobs to adjust the dampers on the toms. I'm no expert but it looks like the shells might be six-ply.
I suspect it wasn't a particularly great kit even when new, but getting it fixed up might be a fun project, so anything anyone could tell me about it would be interesting. A few photos are attached...
