Inherited some OLD Drums... Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Friend of mine, Gary, was a very talented horn player. Played in metro orchestras for years, was a really good music teacher. He died suddenly of brain cancer. Don't think he was much more than 60 couple. Damn. Well, a year later, the executor, who knew I like drums, asked me if I wanted these 4. Heck yeah, sez I. Thanks Gary. RIP. H.

This one is a 22X6, calfskin heads. Neat old drum.

2 -14X10 marching snares, one's a Slingerland, one has no badge. Very similar.

Here's the detail on the Slingerland:

Here's where the badge was on the unknown: This drum has a head marked "AMRAWCO" and "Calf" (American Rawhide Co.?)

There's also a VEX 8 lug 14" Snare.

Any ideas about the unmarked drums? Thanks Gents. H.

Hi. The pictures aren't loading. You might need to resize them to be slightly smaller.

Sorry about your friend. R.I.P.

The 6x22 looks like a ludwig or leedy by the t-rods and claws...the snare drum with missing badge is a ludwig,if you change out the heads keep the rings--wood hoops-- of the heads you take off on any of these drums...Mikey

Hunter, nice old drums Indeed! your last pic of the unbadged drum is a ludwig from the late20's to early 30's, the slingerland has the chicago cloud badge on it from the late 50's, the bass drum looks to be ludwig from around the same time as the snare drum!

That badge is pre-1950s. According to DrCJW's badge timeline, it was in use from 1928-1947 except for a period during WWII.

Thanks for the replies, Gents. I wonder if the eagle / flag deco on the Slingerland is original or if somebody added it later. What type of badge would the old Ludwig 22" bass have had on it? Any chance in Hell of finding restoration parts for the Ludwigs or should I get over that right now?

These are very cool drums and add some serious decor value to my practice room. Looks like vintage marching snares aren't particularly valuable. Guess they made a jillion of them for schools.... Will probably put the best heads on the Slingerland and drum on it a bit. H.

The '36 Slingerland catalog in the Drum Guide has a Legion Heir model with the eagle on it.

I see the pics, now! I CAN SEE! I CAN SEE! Eye Ball

The Eagle drum is probably worth a pretty penny as far as marching drums go. I have seen them go for a lot of moolah on EBay before. That one looks really nice.

I love the single tension bass drum, too! FYI...It's missing at least three of the tension rods.

Man, you are right. There it is. You can just see the eagle. Wow, its so cool to identify the make, year and MODEL! The eagle "decal" on this one I have is in really outstanding condition, too. THANK YOU for pointing that out! H.
