Inside shell treatment Last viewed: 10 hours ago

Loading...

hi guys. I am currently restoring a Meazzi Hollywood drumkit.

I have the feeling that the inside wood of the shells is really really dry (dryed out?)

Should i put something on the inside, like oil/wax....??? or should i just leave it alone?

If i should do anything, what's the best choice of wax/oil...?

thanks!

I had a maple bass drum built for me years ago and the owner of the shop taught me how to rub tung oil into it (he made his client do part of the work!). Not sure if it sounded any better (it was 16x24) but it sure smelled great!

He also applied marine lacquer to the inside of a snare shell and then had me continuously spin it by throwing it up in the air so the lacquer wouldn't ooze towards the floor if you left it alone. This process I did hear a difference in the sound once the drum was done. It sounded brighter, and made it impervious to water! It just didn't smell very good.

Opinions vary, but I've always felt a bit of lemon oil is a welcomed by a dry wood surface. I use it on guitars and drums,....and furniture.
