Here's a couple of photos of my Premier Powerhouse 9x13 tom.

There is a darker ring on the interior that is not on the 10x14, anyone know why? Also, I think this finish is called mahogany duroplastic, it looks to be the same finish on Ringos Premier kit. Does anyone know if this finish is rare? Thanks.

The darker ring appears to be either a varnish or adhesive of some type over -applied at the factory. This happens sometimes...it depended on the particular guy working the shell manufacturing line at the time.

As far as Mahogany Duroplasty being rare....yes it is rather rare.....Why? Well just look at it! :p

You are such a goofball.

No, the mahogany Duraplast is not what one could term "rare". It's not as prevalent as, say, red sparkle ... but, it's not rare. It was a standard offering from about 1963 until about 1979.

Yes it was offered for a long time....but.....it is rare because it was not that common.....I mean, look at it! Its so freakin' ugly! Would you have ordered your new Premier kit in that finish, Ringo connection or not? Premier had much better looking finishes available than that! Mallet Player2

The darker ring looks like it is a joint where two pieces of ply got joined together or a fill in for a piece that had a knot.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

What? Ugly? This kit looks great on stage, you must be mistaken with Ringos Ludwig black oyster peral kit, now that was ugly.

BTW, I know the Ludwig burgandy sparkle and mod orange kits were offered for years, but no one bought them because they were termed as being "ugly". Now they go for big bucks because they are rare, I know Premier doesn't have the same legacy as Ludwig, but this was the finish that was on Ringo's Premier kit. Anyone can find a wmp, silver sparkle, sky blue pearl or black diamond pearl kit, but try finding a one in this finish.:)

As you already know, I love this finish. It's a cool thing Premier did when they did the wrap pattern at an angle. I see between ten and fifteen of these pop up a year. It's not rare, but it's also not common. Sort of an in-betweener. Ive seen more of these than gold sparkle. Makes you think ...

Really? When you say "seen", do you mean in person or on ebay? I've never seen one like this anywhere, except on the Premier drum site. I've owned at least two gold sparkle kits and have seen many others, makes you think
