Interesting 1970's Slingerland Finish Last viewed: 1 day ago

Is it safe to assume that this is not the original finish on this kit? I find it a little odd that none of the photos show the inside of the any of the badge grommets. In the photo looking down on the bass drum it appears that the inside of the grommet is pretty rough. I have also only seen the Slingerland logo ink stamp on the interior of 70's kits with concert toms, although I am not certain about this.

That being said, it is a very cool finish. Anyone seen a wood stain/duco combo like this before?

Looks more like a do it yourself fade job. If it's original duco Slingerland did a poor job. Follow your instincts. Or just ask the seller if he's 100% certain guaranteed that this kit was never refinished. I doubt he/she will. Plus overpriced by $200 or so.

I'm not interested in buying it, I just thought it was interesting. But yes, I agree, overpriced.

That looks like a do-it-yourself fade finish to me as well. The transition from dark to light would have been more smooth and certainly more linear. Also, wood finishes in this time period were generally finished as hi-gloss lacquer and occasionally an oil finish. Matte finishes are a fairly new trend. Drums appear to be in pretty good shape otherwise, but I agree that it is overpriced.

No, I'm not a fan of the missing inlays on the hoops either. Just the finish on the drums.

Yes, agreed. The transition from dark to light is pretty rough in spots.
