Wanted to buy.. an internal damper to fit to a Current Model Hammered brass Gretsch shell. I've been looking for a couple of months but refuse to pay Rip Off freight charges.. I know it only costs 10-12 Bucks to ship one of these to OZ. The Ludwig p40662 is ideal.. or the basic Pearl model.

Simple thing to buy?? not out here.. see what I'm up against

Pearl damper is only about 5.00 from Musicians Friend... but they don't ship to OZ

Ludwig postage is 38.10 From Philly

Gretsch postage is 53.45 from Explorer

I challenged Explorer on the freight.. their attitude is "take it or leave it"..

Cheers

longjohn --

I just looked up a small flat rate box, international to Austrailia... $16.95.

I sometimes stock the new Pearl ones, but don't have any right now.

However, I probably will be ordering some in within the next 2-3 weeks.

I have shipped items in this manner to Austrailia before. The only issue is that once it leaves the USA the tracking info "disappears" until it's delivered, sometimes 7 to 10 more business days.

IF you're still looking in a couple of weeks, let me know!

I'm certainly not trying to tell you what to do with your drum, but are you sure you want to drill a hole in your snare? That's a great snare by the way!

It may be easier for you to obtain Moon Gel, or a strip of gaffer's tape for that matter. It wouldn't be a permanent alteration either.

Those are just my thoughts, and you have every right to do what you wish with your drum.

Thanks Bill for your offer, you'll more than likely see a P/M from me in a week or two if nothing comes up sooner.

I also was aware of the USPS flat box rates, that's what annoys me, it's such a pity that people like Explorer Drums seem unaware of all postage options for International shipping. (I think that they just rely on Ebay's calculator to do these ridiculous rates). I have bought quite a lot from the US in the past couple of years and I have been happy with the 1-3 weeks transit times. I've not had a problem so far.

SlingerLynn,

Thanks for the heads up. I did give this considerable thought, I will be playing this snare quite a lot and am used to a "tweak" on a tone control if and when required, each of my snares has one fitted and I just prefer this method.. Habit I guess.

And you are correct, they are indeed a great snare.

Cheers

John

I understand and respect that. I borrowed one of those drums from a friend a few weeks ago while Ludwig had my Black Beauty (finish was flaking). You will enjoy that drum immensely and for a long time.

How could you bear to give it back Laughing H ?

Really lucky with my purchase of this one for about 110.00us.

Few bidders on ebay, due to the sellers description and cloudy distant photo..

Eg; "Snare drum gold colour",not even a mention of brand,(the drum is brand new & my bargain of the year).

Cheers

WOW! What a deal! I sure wouldn't mind having one. I like my hammered Black Beauty a lot, though. But, to be honest, I haven't played the new one since I got it from Ludwig. I'm actually considering selling it for $75-100 less than new price and it's literally brand new from the factory. I play my MoJoe 6x13 most of the time, if I need volume and a very focused crack. I play the DW if I need big, fat tone. I've got a few other great snares, so I wouldn't miss it that much and I'd rather have the money to cover fixing up my Super Gene Krupa snare and getting some more vintage Zildjians. I'm looking forward to getting the parts to get my Super GK going, I've actually never played a single ply maple snare.

By the way, I didn't want to give the Gretsch back. It's got a great tuning range, from wet and fat to quite dry and crisp...am I talking myself into trying to find one now? ;)

You're exactly right! I've got 8 if you count the 70s Acrolite that I haven't used in years and the piece of garbage that came with my Pacific birch kit. I've got 6 that I like enough to bring out, only 4 ever really see playing time, and only 2 get the lion's share of the work. As soon as I get the parts for the Slingerland, I'm sure it will become one of my go-to snares.

I've been wanting to get a Gretsch Catalina Jazz kit. The church I play at has one of those kits and it sounds great. The snare's not bad, but the brass is much better. So whenever I can afford to get that kit, I may have to upgrade the snare to the hammered brass. I would like that kit much better than the Pacific.
