Introduction and a couple questions Last viewed: 16 minutes ago

Greetings,

I have reviewed the resources on this wonderful site throughout the years, but have just recently pulled the trigger and joined up.

I've been a drummer since 1969 (yikes!) and have had my hands on some drums in my history that I really wished I still had... 4 piece 1964 Ludwig Oyster Swirl (I was 12 at that time), Black Vistalite Octaplus (I was 18)... *sigh*

Anyway, I just wanted to say "hello" and ask a couple of questions regarding a recent Goodwill find:

Hopefully the pics will show up in this post...

Based on what I could piece together from this site and other Internet searches, this appears to be a 1948-52 12x15 WFL Parade drum.

Obviously the heads are not original, but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the strainer... No throw-off lever, ("Miltary" ?)... If it is original, does it narrow down the actual year of production?

Also, the bottom hoop where the snares come through... Looks to have been over cut a little... Would this have been a 'user-modified' hoop or were there some from the factory that came out like this?

Also it appears as if tension rods pass through the the lugs and thread into the bottom hoop claws... Just one big long rod instead of a set for the top and a set for the bottom... Is this common on these drums?

Anyway, hopefully I haven't rambled too much... Let me know if you'd like other pics...

Really?

How come my Goodwill, Salvation Army, Thrifty Shopper and Rescue Mission stores only have VCR's and leisure suits.

I hear about these finds at these type of stores and I go crazy!!
