I see this all the time, mostly in craigslist adds, apparently from a non-drummer seller. They all set the tom toms up about 2 feet a part!

LOL i do see a lot of that on entry level drums . and that to me is a good indication some one has no clue about drums and they just want them gone .

They are just trying to emulate some of the old catalogs pictures, ya know the wider the foot print the better the drums!
