As a part time searcher for drum deals I spend a decent amount of time each week on Ebay. In the last three to four years I have noticed this selling trend. List the drums sooooooooo high no one will ever buy it. I'm not talking about the guy that puts a decent Ludwig matching kit for $1500 (which may be a little high). I'm talking about the drum sets that we see on ebay for what seems like forever, listed at prices that are two and three times higher than anyone would ever pay. I feel this over pricing has caused a false sense of selling expectations. When I look at completed items, less than 10% of what is listed sells. And, when I look at "sold" completed items, the numbers always reflect the market (i.e. 1973 4 piece red sparkle Ludwig kit w/out snare sells for $787 with 43 bids). With that information at our disposal, why do I then see the same style kit listed at $2999 with a buy it now function? Am I missing something? Is there a method to this madness?

Possibilities:
1. Free advertising for a sale off ebay with no fees
2. Don't really want to sell, but if someone want to pay stupid pricing, then out it goes.
3. There is a "gotta have it" person for every sale I believe. I mean, not like I have ever payed more than "normal" for that last piece to complete a restoration.
I think most of the overprice items go with strippers or gougers. They relist over and over. Then you see the prices Richard King get with his auctions with his reputation for quality items.
