Is this Jazz Festival legit? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

OK, is it just me, or is the location of the badge and muffler on this Jazz Festival, currently on eBay, look a bit odd? Picture attached, plus link to auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=141008610155

If someone has a JF with the badge and logo in this position, please post a picture so I know I'm not crazy!

all mine have the baseball bat on the other side of the badge and then an open panel where this ones muffler is and then the strainer. some also have the strainer where the baseball bat muffler is on this champagne drum.

That doesn't seem right....but it is Ludwig so if a newbie on the line happened to drill the drum wrong they weren't about to trash it, they'd finish it up and ship it out.

I believe it is original. Just drilled wrong at the factory. Don't know if I could get use to it or not though! Nice drum though!

Thanks to the above 3 posts! All of you hit the nail on the head! Glad I'm not going crazy!

The most plausible does seem to be that it was drilled incorrectly and that Ludwig was not about to trash an otherwise good shell! This is exactly what I mentioned to the seller.

Again, thanks for confirming my suspicions!

The interior looks correct, but you could ask the seller to send a photo of the scarf joint just to confirm.

Another way to look at is that if someone were to want fake one of these there's almost no way they would make such a blatant "mistake". Particularly someone with the knowledge & skills to make the rest of the drum so perfectly, right down to the inner grommet flange...whereas Ludwig themselves would ship out a drum drilled like that without a second thought.

Considering the way drum companies operated back then, I have no doubt this drum was just drilled incorrectly and Ludwig didn't give it a second thought. Or, they did give it some thought, but allowed it to be built and shipped anyway! No reason to waste a perfectly good shell!

I agree with K.O. on this one. Although I've not seen this specific "configuration" before, I have indeed seen to oddities come direct from the factory...

And, when I make "reproductions" (and ALWAYS describe as such when selling), I always put in a lot of effort to make sure stuff is placed RIGHT.

So, I'm with the group on here who thinks this one's legit.
