ISO Mounts - My solution to mounting vintage Ludwig & Ludwig toms Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I thought some of you might appreciate this solution I came up with to mount two toms on a modern stand with L-arms. I came up with an ISO mount that adapts and uses the standard (for that time period) mounting holes. I designed it and had a local machine shop make up a couple. Hope you like it. So you know, this came about because I gig with my late 30's/early 40's Ludwig & Ludwig kit and I am switching over to using a double kick setup. I wanted to mount two toms (12" & 13") in between the kicks, but usually these toms get mounted in a snare stand. The solution is in the picture... Please note that I am using the existing holes - no drilling required. Also, I used existing Ludwig Keystone tom mounts - why reinvent the wheel?

Very nice job! That's the way to do it. Beautiful drums as well.

Great idea. Do you notice any sonic difference?

It actually works well. I can't discern any major differences between holding it in my hand and mounting it on the L-arm/stand. As a rule, I tune my drums when they're mounted anyway. If it sings on the stand, that's all that matters. I haven't compared side-by-side if there's a difference when mounted in a snare stand basket yet.
