once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

How rare/common is the Charcoal Astro wrap on Standards? I came up on a Standard kit from 1969 w/matching snare, white interiors in Downbeat sizes (12/14/20/14). She's a player, but she's complete. Pics and thread coming soon...then after some cleaning...she will be going up for sale.

The 'Astro' wraps have been a minor bone of contention a few times here on the forum. I haven't seen many, I think they're scarce. (I dislike the word 'rare' when describing things not that old and mass manufactured. However that's my mania...) Some folks have seen lots of them. There was a thread some time back where the supposed 'rareness' was discussed in terms of the 'mist', 'astro' and 'strata' wraps.

Personally, here in California (I think you're in Cali as well, I'm near Fresno) I've seen more strata wraps than any other. With Ruby, Blue and Bronze being in the majority.

Now, the kit you have; jazz sizes, matching snare and seemingly decent shape in that wrap could get kind of crazy value-wise. The jazz sizes are scarce, and in some wraps, darn rare.

Not much Bronze Strata around these parts. Mostly ruby and blue and then gold. The others seem to turn up less often. I had a chance to buy an Avocado Strata double bass set for $150 back around 1981 or 82...didn't. Wouldn't mind finding a bronze set someday, especially a 12/14/20.

Thanks for the insight. I think it is a cool little set, but it's not my cup of tea. I just need to get off my lazy @ss and clean them up so I can offer them to another fellow drummer who will put them to use. As I mentioned, I will be starting a thread for that kit soon.
