It's Happened Again... Last viewed: 22 minutes ago

I had a bid on a drum on eBay. There was a few days left and I was high bidder. I checked a few minutes ago and it's gone....no explaination....nothing. All I get is 'you are not bidding on anything at this time'

Should I not be able to at least go somewhere on eBay and see what happened? I really don't care if the seller pulled the item for whatever reason...but I'd like to know about it....at least a heads-up the item has been pulled.

Is this standard? It's happened twice to me in the last few months.

Gary it has been happening more and more often, mainly due to ebay and their cut throat business practices, Sellers are using ebay to advertise the merchandise that they have and then sale off of ebay.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I think if you also keep it on your watchlist you might be able to see the history..i'm not 100 percent certain on that however.

Hi Kona!

How have you been? Great here.

What V2k and mlayton said is on the mark. Folks are using eBay to advertise, then sell off line or off eBay and save the fees.

I put everything I'm interested in, in my 'watch list' so I can at least figure out what the he11 is going on.

Thanks guys - Ya, I usually do put stuff on my Watch List but sometimes - at least on these last two occasions I didn't. Good to know that it's common and not just something wrong with my eBay connection.

You can also phone ebay. About 4 months ago I went on the ebay community forum and raised dung about them hiding from buyers and allowing only email communication about only a set list of issues.

About 1 month later they made phone lines appear again and it is easy to communicate with them now. I've even been patched through to talk to Germany( in English) more than once.

In their telephone prompts; there is a specific question about whether you are inquiring about a cancelled auction. I have never used it but presumably you can find out the details about one there.

I have never liked the policy of allowing auction cancelling---it has happened to me many times but I just move on. Ebay is a site that provides an on-line auction service . It would be hard for them to have any legal hold on individuals who have chosen to take the lure of top dollar from someone , on or off the site. Ebay doesn't like the practice any more than you do but what are they supposed to do about it?They would have to find absolute evidence of policy violation. They allow for damaged or lost items to be withdrawn from auction---it only makes sense, so if someone sells something outside of ebay and then files a claim , that the item was damaged, then it is what it is , whether truthfull or not.

Now,;if there is a complaint about such a situation, they may investigate by reviewing communication between the seller and others , through their system. Ebay has put some sort of limitations on people using their system to communicate email addresses and then doing a private deal. You can no longer send a message through the ebay system that carries an email address( with the at symbol)) but you can use something like this kona(at)suchandsuch.ca, in order to prompt outside communication. If ebay has enough evidence to investigate, then they will discover that sort of hankypanky but who wants to take it that far?

Wow! I thought it was just me. I thought I was bidding on something and then one day Bam! it was just gone and I couldn't find it in bidding or lost or anywhere.

Anyone had this happen - I was the high bidder on a drum worth about 3-400 and the bid was about to end at $190 - a good deal for sure, then suddenly a high bid comes in at $9,999.00 and the item is listed in the sold section as being sold for $9,999.00 I contacted ebay and they said some crap about it's not a problem. It's between the seller and buyer.

I smell a scam!

Absolutely a scam here - no doubt in my mind about it.

In both my cases though the items were not rare or expensive. I started this thread to find out if it was a common occurrance.....looks like it is. It's one of the faults with the eBay system. Overall though....I must say.....it sure is nice to have world-wide access at your fingertips for stuff you need.

30 years ago....you'd be on the phone or writing a letter looking for stuff or even going on extensive road trips just to get a chance to look in music stores or second-hand shops to try to find a part or a drum. eBay is not perfect but it's pretty handy sometimes I'll give it that.
