I've come to the dark side... DW Last viewed: 6 hours ago

I bought a used DW Collectors set in late 2010. 16x22/8x12/14x14 in Black Oyster Pearl and paid $1100, so I'd say you did very well on the price. I use a 1965 Supraphonic snare with them, and I love the way they sound. Currently have Evans G2 coated on the batter sides and G1 on the resonate sides. Emad2 on the bass. I play 4/5 times a month and this is my go to set everytime. Picked up the flat based DW cymbal stands and hi hat stand for less weight in the hardware case and wow, what a back saver and very sturdy as well.

I love those stands myself. They can take a pounding too.

From geckobeats

Anyway, drummers might look at it a bit funny, but it's okay. Artists drum sets are allowed to be different.

Thanks Geckobeats!! Gave me a good chuckle!! Laughing H

Thanks for all of your guys' replies! I can't wait to play these out live somewhere.. I need a gig, soon!

I plan to put some new heads on the toms soon, maybe today if I can get by there. I put a gently used EMAD on the bass drum and it sounds great! I've always been a Remo guy, but the EMAD's are some of the best sounding bass heads in my opinion.

Here's a couple photos of the set.

I did a bit of a side/side comparison with the 10" rack with my 12" Club Date tom. Tuned to the same pitch, the DW tom sounded a bit more defined with a full "round tone". The Club Date had more of an open, less focused tone (not saying that is bad at all). I plan to do a side/side comparison with my 3-ply 16" floor tom soon as well.

Thanks guys!

Great price. The 10/16 tom arrangement is quite a spread though. I have a 22/12/14/16. Sounds very good. Don't really care for the 18 deep BD but that thing sounds huge wide open.

Well, the 10 - 16 spread on the toms was just not working for me. Great sounding drums, but I sold them this week. Sold them to a buddy that runs a sound/stage company so they will be put to good use. After comparing them to my 70s 3 ply Ludwig kit, I just dont think the DW's sounded better. Maybe, if I were to get another set of them with more conventional sizes, I'd try them again.

That was my thoughts also, the sizes Yuck ! But for the price you got them at it was a win win !
