Just wondering if anybody had any experience with using these LED drum lights inside vintage Ludwig painted shells. I'm mulling over the idea, but I'm not gonna touch them if there's a chance of them pulling some of the paint or causing discoloration.

The adhesive on most LED tape products is mildly aggressive and may cause damage to your interior. I have used thousands of feet of similar product and the adhesive is somewhat akin to that of Velcro. You might get it off without damaging your finish but I would get some to test first.

At the old shop O.C.D.P. i did some drums with these type of LED light's in them.On wood shells and Vistelites shells i did not used any Tape, ete to hold the light's in.What i did is made some small hoops or hook's that i screwed under a lug mounting screw....Mikey

Thank you! My plan was to try Inspired LED strips, which I'm sure is very similar or the same. The other idea was to apply the strip to something like painters tape, but I know that gets brittle over time and can be difficult to manage.

That makes sense. Did you use LED strips that attach the thin sheets or were you using the strips that are mounted inside of a tube? Seems like the tube style through hooks would work out well.
If you are using acrylic drums then the encapsulated LED products would make more sense as they are viewable over roughly 360 degrees. It can be difficult to pull them tight enough to actually look good however. Since you mention a painted interior I think the tape light would be far superior. I might suggest experimenting with this idea:
Try cutting a piece of vinyl or thin plastic (PVC) sheet material into 2"-3" wide strips. You basically will make a reinforcing ring on the interior of the drum that will be drilled out to attach under one set of lug bolts using this material. Then, apply the tape LED to the vinyl ring. It will work great and do absolutely no lasting damage to your shell interior.

Nice! I'll see if I can find a sheet like this. Great idea.
