Well THANKS Hoppy! Here's the even cooler thing... it gets played too!, but of course ONLY in inside venues. Gotta protect that vintage WMP!

Clubdate, your tone control should be correct for the date of your drum. I think the baseball bats didn't make there appearance until sometime in 1962 or 1963.

Hi,

The Super Classic snare carried on for a long time after the Buddy connection collapsed.

I saw a really beat up version a couple of days ago and this thread helped me unravel what I was looking at.

As near as I can tell delineating a later Super Classic (not Buddy version) from a Jazz Fest comes down to one (maybe two) things:

1. The throw mechanism as noted.

2. Depth, which I may have wrong, but I understand the SC's were 5.5" and JF's 5" . Am I all wrong, or just assuming too much in the ever changing world of Ludwig?

Is that it though? When I look at the catalogs, there are the JF and the SC, and they look remarkably similar and the SC features--while desirable--are not a huge leap from the JF.

All wrong? Half?

Byootiful drums btw,

thanks

The big difference is the strainer.Jazzfest drums MUST have the p-83 strainer and p-32 butt. Most but not all were 5x14.Some 5 1/2" and 5 /14"drums have shown up most noteably Ringo's Jazzfest which most say is 5 1/2x14.The Classic drums Must have the P-87 strainer and p-88 butt, possibbly a P-32 butt also. These drums were made in 5 1/2 x 14 only ..but..it was the 60's and it was Ludwig.Custom drums are the exception to the rule.
