Match grip is always handy in staged performances with backing track. Bit more relaxing espcially with one handed triplets and stick twirling to do.

Hey, is that a Swivomatic tom mount??? :D

Interesting...i saw Led Zep live that year and a friend of mine(a photographer)was up on the wings of the stage taking pics and he got some great black & white photos.Another friend of mine has them to this day. Can`t recall what set he was playing but interesting that he was using Sonor here. All i remember was the cymbal stands were very thin and would sway slightly when he struck his cymbals. As to Bonham`s traditional grip- very rare to see him use it but with slow blues guess he felt comfortable using it.So very far ahead of his time and so was the whole band.

I think it was a house kit. You can see the same kit on "Born to be wild" video of Steppenwolf in the same show.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Funny seeing JHB with a "small" bass drum.

I recall playing that Step tune like it was yesterday. Cool duplication of the use of that stage kit.

I have seen that Sonor kit used by others on the beat club videos. Here it is from 1966 [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNZPslIRm5o"]BEAT CLUB # 14 November 19, 1966 - YouTube[/ame]

Nice videos. About the sonor kit, it looks to be '65 and older due to the offset bass mounted tom holder. I believe that switched to centered in '66.

Also about the tom arm as mentioned by Dan, I think Rogers based their hardware off of sonor only they went with even heavier tubes. Seems like I read that in MD years ago. Sonor(Trixon, and other German makers) were a step ahead of the rest of the drum world when it came to mountings and such.
