I have the honor to play on our church with Jon Hyde. Former drummer for Detective. The only band that got signed by Swan Song. He toured with Zep on the early 70's and he rehearsed with the Zeps once (he played the amber Vistalites) when JHB wasn't feeling good. He has such an amazing stories to tell about JHB that sometimes makes my head spins...

Wasn't Bad Company with Swan Song?

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

My humble and sincere apologies to you, BBK. I get something in my mind and it needs to come out. Usually, they are FB'd. I erred by opening up here. I thought it was dead. Hopefully, it has been put to rest now. You did an honorable thing here that I seem to have inadvertantly tainted. Again, I apologize. I will try to keep these off these pages in the future.

As I said earlier......"Mcjnic, I admire your knowledge and posts, nothing against you brother, you're still aces in my book".

I admire a person that can speak their mind, it's not often that most do. You didn't taint anything in my book, it's a free forum and some people (Ludwigs4Life are ya listening?) get a little pompous with their facts. I admire knowledge, but don't care for it if it's shoved down my throat with arrogance. We can all play nice here and have an opinion.

I welcome your opinion as well as others to this forum, though I don't always agree, I read them with a somewhat open mind ;)

To me, JHB, was "that" drummer in "that" band that we (local drummers in my home town) used to sit around and listen to and say....how the hell does he do that?? (single BD triplets for example).

The band & the drummer were special for the time for sure. No matter what one would think about JHB's drumming he did leave his mark in history......rock&roll drum history at least....as one powerhouse drummer with a lot of feel & taste going on. He's not my favorite drummer but I did & do have huge respect for his drumming and like a lot of the music he made.

No sweat. You wouldn't have to say "sorry" had I not split the topic. I believe I was born without a filter ... they stopped making my size years ago. I'm s.o.l.

If you don't mind, I'm going to open up a little here. It may make some uncomfortable, but that happens in life from time to time. I don't know how I feel about this one. JHB is talented and has influenced lots of people ... but then again, lots of others have done that. Charles Darwin and his cousin Francis Galton left their mark on our society. Darwin gave us a flawed theory centered around a very limited understanding of the cell - nothing more than a gelatinous blob in a sac, Galton gave us Eugenics. Both of these men were the toast of the town and treated as typical immortals of the day. Eugenics was so popular in the United States, we had destroyed over 60,000 lives before realizing how negative it really was. It was all a very popular movement and was supported by the majority. It was so popular, Hitler and the Nazi party adopted it, and we know how that turned out. These two were very popular among the United States citizens and the Entertainment industry and the political parties. Darwin and Galton's work were some of the most popular of their time. They were given places of honor that made them larger than life - long after their deaths.I guess what I'm saying is the work of a man should be measured in regard to the positive impact it makes on a society. I'm just not ready to call the music or the life example that JHB left us "positive". It's just my opinion and really not up for debate. I like some of the licks he's put down, but overall, I'm not so sure he should be brought up to the level that people have placed him. Thanks for the open moment. I really don't want to debate this. Just felt a need to state it. It's been on my mind and heart for a while here and this popped up.

Come on Gents! The thread was about John Bonham ripping up a 5 piece Ludwig kit... not "survival of the fittest", or Nazis. Please stay on topic!

My experience w/John Bonham is only from Led Zep.- 4 Sticks, D'Yer Maker

and of course, Kashmir. He could fill like no one from his time, and for a Rock drummer, he knew the Rudiments! Kick drum just spoke!

Oh yeah-we haven't mentioned "Moby Dick"...

The famous and deceased are no more demi-gods than today's football or basketball players(Don't they take handguns in locker rooms?) He was just a kick-a*s drummer. Let's focus on his talent!

Enjoy the date...Raise a glass, or just listen. -J
