jumping ship to Rogers Last viewed: 2 minutes ago

I will echo what Wayne said PLUS for whatever reason Rogers seem to be selling for great great prices. I guess good for the buyers on the hunt.

I still recall playing my Dayton Celebrity with 22x14 bass drum for the first time....wow!! We all talk about kits we wish we did not sell and that was one for me. I actually kept it in my office for my business in North Carolina.

Think about it; slightly undersized shells (heads could float) clean edges and hardware ahead of its time. It took a lot of modern drum companies a while to crack this code and Rogers did it arguably by the 60's.

Great point IMHO. Cosmetically, I love the slimmer BD hoop inlays on Rogers [and Ludwig]....I mean I really really think it looks way better.

What interiors did the kits with the faucet-style T-rods have?

I want that kit optikdrummer posted...

Wow what a response, well there are plenty of Rogers lovers out there, some really sound advice, I live in the UK so finding a kit won't be as easy but I have a good dealer who brings in kits from the US so that is a massive help.

I was almost decided on 22,13, 16 Cleveland but after some of the comments here will have a look at 20 and 12s and 14s as well and certainly won't count out Dayton era.

I have heard the old bread and butter lugs can be fragile, are these best avoided or is it blown out of proportion.

Thank you all for your comments they have been very helpful

Just one more question, what do people think of the tower kits, do the single lugs make a noticeable difference

My favorite Rogers is Dayton. Very nice sharper edges and the best hardware. That being said for a kit to play you won't go wrong with script badge Fullerton. I played out two different Celebrity kits; a Cleveland and Dayton. I really preferred the Dayton's slightly more focused initial attack. Think about it; slightly undersized shells (heads could float) clean edges and hardware ahead of its time. It took a lot of modern drum companies a while to crack this code and Rogers did it arguably by the 60's.

If you talking about hardware directly on the drums, Dayton hardware is simply a lighter version of the Cleveland built hardware. Not quite as nice. Also to consider that late Dayton resulted in cast hardware, which cracked. Cleveland was all machined and stood the test of time.

Tower kits are incredible as well. I've had a couple.. built exactly the same as Cleveland drums with less weight. Very nice. Typically a little more difficult to find.

Agreed.!

If your willing to spend an extra $300/400 more (then the Later Fullertone years)....buy the Cleveland's ..!

Better hardware, better craftsmanship, & better resale value.

However these "mostly" came in a Bass/rack tom/Flr Tom setup & finding a 24"...mmmm..?
