what kind of batter heads do you guys recommend on these? I have some single ply clear heads and they sound pretty decent. I don't like to tune my drums up high but the 12" tom has to be tuned pretty high to get a good pitch.

Everyone has their own desired sound, but I like coated ambassadors over clear ambassadors on 70s Ludwigs. Sometimes I'll use a clear emperor as a reso head on a floor tom if it's a little too wild.

You might try to get some cheap used heads on ebay to experiment with before buying all new heads. I came back to coated ambassadors after trying many.

This is all subjective of course, but i would go with some coated Remo vintage A's or Emperors. For the snare, most definitely a coated CS control sound..

I have a set of rocker II's.

I opted for clear emporers on top, ambassadors on bottom, P3 on the kick.

Smooth white would look cool with the red if loose the black logo head.

Here's how my kit sounds.

here is the snare

This is not the Rocker chrome over wood snare that I had, and I think Ludwig gave with most kits. Perhaps it was the Acro that came with the earlier Rocker versions. Either way you got a good deal.

I appreciate all of the suggestions....I have some coated remo heads on my gretsch kit that I just tried and I think I like the clear one ply sound better on these ludwigs. The white heads do look pretty cool on the red drums. I'm thinking about getting the white retro Ludwig USA kick drum head for the front...not sure how it will look with the black on the kick hoops though.

I wonder if it originally came with a different snare drum? I figure they would have the same logos and since the blue and olive are different than the rest of the black and white badges, it may not be the original snare.

So here's how my rewrapped Rocker II red sparkle/mist kit looks with white heads. Hope it helps with your decision. I have coated Emperors on the tom batters.
