Just heard back and I'm gonna go see it tomorrow AM. Seller said he got it from the original owner who hardly ever used it.
So what would be a fair opening bid?

He is the seller..have him name the price!
He may say $50-100 less then you would have said!

Just picked it up for $220 and the serial on the tag is 6004. The V-shape on the Sta-Tite strainer points up so, according the The Rogers Book, it was made, at the earliest, 1967 not 1963 as the seller claimed. Also there is no muffler or hole where it could have been installed - should it have one? It looks just the one in the catalog except for no internal tone control like it advertises.
Appears all original, even heads and snares, with virtually no pitting. Only issue I see is that some of the inside nuts are a bit rusty due to a rip in the bottom head.
The case and stand are not Rogers but did Rogers ever sell this snare as a bundled student package?
Thanks again for all the great input.

Congrats. Glad you got it. You have what is essentially a Powertone snare drum. Difference being Throw off and Butt.
Page 21 in the 64 catalogue shows a Tower with case and stand. So, yes on the package.
Like Student snares offered by other American companies during that time, Student snares where very different than a "student" quality snare offered today. Those drums were every bit as Pro Quality as any other offered.
