this was put together and given to me by my boss. let me explain...i tend bar at a small bar in a lit'l town close to me. my dad and stepmom ran a karaoke bussiness for about 15 yrs, they are both gone now, loss my dad in nov of 2010 and my stepmom 2 yrs b4. this is one of the flyers they would use for advertisement. the dollar was signed and given to the owner of the bar by my dad and stepmom on opening nite when the new owner took over the bar (dad and stepmom were doing karaoke that nite) . others did the same and the owner taped the dollars above the bar mantle for keepsakes. anyway when i started working there, i noticed the dollar and asked my daughter (she also works at this bar) if she would ask the owner if i could buy that dollar.(she sees and knows the owner more then i do) i'd pay what ever amount. so ollie (my daughter) talked to our boss (the manager) and she told ollie she would take care of it herself. so when i got to work yesterday, karen (our boss) handed me a box and said this is for you. i opened the box and totally lost it, i couldn't hold it back, tears just poured. we don't have very many keepsakes from our dad, so what we do have is very sacrid. this was a very very kind thing for my boss to do. has changed my whole outlook on her too.

anyway, this is something very touching to me and just wanted to share it with you all. thanks for listening.

Thank you for that, thats a nice story and has cheered me up this evening. I lost my Mum last Sunday and I've had a bit of a week of it to put it mildly, and your story has brought me in from the cold, as it were.

That was very touching and deserving in my opinion. Nice to work for some good-hearted people.

Did your Dad or Stepmom drum? Or did they play any instrument?

John

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Ian, i am very sorry for your loss. my heart goes out to you and your family, and will keep you in my prayers. i'm glad my story touched you and helped in whatever way. your pain will never go completely away, but it does get a lit'l better with time.

John, that's what i like most bout these lit'l downhome country small towns we have here. the hearts and souls are true.

my dad and stepmom were both very musically talented. my dad had a voice that would put a canary to shame, stepmom had a very pretty voice too, but my dad....i just can't put it in words. dad and stepmom could both play drums but were not their instrument of choice. dad played guitar and bass and stepmom played the keys. when they lived in wisconson they did a two pc show, dad on guitar and stepmom on key board w/built in drum machine and the bass line, and was loved by many in their area.

Jeff, yep, i remember our conversation. it's nice to know i'm not the only sentimental nut around here.;)

I miss my daddy...and stepmom too.

Robyn

Lovely tale of a person truly being kind and thoughtful of another person... putting effort behind the action and making it very special.

Thanks for sharing...

I'm not a bible thumper but my dad was a pastor in small farming community and when I hear stories like this I always think of the book of James and it's lesson on showing real faith through actions and not just words.
