Kent snare - decent price? Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Loading...

Hi all,

I've been looking for a Kent snare recently (I'm intrigued by their story and have been in the market for a unique wood snare) and found this one. It's the size I want and it has the lugs I want as well, and the finish is super cool. The only thing it's missing is the strainer, which I understand isn't a bad thing :) Lugs, hoops, rods, badge, and snare butt are all intact. I'm guessing early to mid 1960s based on the badge design and lugs.

It's priced at $80, $107 total with shipping. Is this a good price for this instrument? Thanks in advance.

Price is pretty much what you are willing to pay. $80 for a Kent drum is reasonable, and I have seen this one for sale. It appears to be from the white badge era. The wrap looks like it may need some TLC but that is the fun part of vintage drums. I would personally reach out to see if they will take $15 less due to the missing strainer. You never know. Good luck

I agree with Michael. If that drum was local to me, I'd buy it. Neat wrap on it. I too would ask for a 15-25 dollar price drop due to the strainer. But if they didn't bite, I'd still go ahead and pick it up.

Thanks guys, great input. Regarding the badge, a closeup in a different pic showed some blue color remaining in some small places, so I'd assume it's from the "blue" era, mid 60s, correct? I just love the oddball background of the Kent manufacture.

That craigslist kit above is a great deal - wish I hadn't seen it!! Any other input/info appreciated.

That is a 60s blue badge that has had the color rubbed off not a white 50s badge . They are nice snares but know that it is a 6 lug and if you tune your snare high at all it will not work well as the 6 lug does not like the tension of high tunings . An 8 lug is a much better and more versatile snare . These are 2 ply maple snares and that two ply is made from one long ply that is wrapped around itself to make it 2 ply . The snare and mounted toms are 2 ply and the bass and floor toms are 6 ply .

The low tuning is actually what I'm shooting for in my search for a wood snare, so this may work out well. Thanks for the extra info too.

Nice and glad my info may have helped you . Some additional info that may be of some service to you is the clock face Rogers throw is supposed to be the same hole pattern as the factory Kent throw or you could get one of those throws that has adjustable mounts so you don't drill extra holes in the snare . if you get the snare welcome to the Kent club and feel free to hit me up with any questions you may have .

I happen to be the member selling the Kent kit.

If anyone is interested, I can ship it. Motorfrieght is preferred as I can do that cheaper than UPS or FedEx ground. Helps if you work at a place that accepts/has a dock or unloading point. If not, can still ship UPS, it's just expensive for a kit of this value.

They are in need of resto, and a lot of the chrome is rusted. I was able to find a tom mount from Blair-n-Drums, and a non matching BD leg. I made a makeshift floor tom leg, as it was missing one. The floor tom is stamped Nov 29 1966, has all the original reso heads, two Kent pedals, a MIJ hi hat stand and a snare stand I pulled from my parts bin to be able to set it up and make presentable.

I am selling these for a client, while I am asking $300, I would work with VDF members if interested.

PM me if interested.

Dean
