anyone know where i can score a drum key for slotted lugs?...don't want to use a screwdriver, kind of manufacturing one in my head with lug as mold at a friends metal shop....**** maybe I will make a 1,000 of them...Think there is a market?

I`ve only got one that came with my Sonor snare so i think i`ll hang onto it.Don`t know how hard these are to find so you just may be onto something here. Didn`t do my research on these slotted drum keys tho`.

For what brand and era of drums would the key be for?
Not all slotted keys/tension rods are the same size...Depends on the brand and era...Some have a thicker slot...Some have a longer slot...I`m sure that the different companies manufactured their tension rods this way so only their particular key would fit the slot perfectly...
As years go by, the key usually gets misplaced and the drummer ends up using a screwdriver, coin, or whatever is available to them at the time...This is why, at times, we see slotted tension rods stripped and "beat up"...
I collect keys, so if you fabricate your own, I`d buy one...Good luck on you endeavor...
Cheers
I need one for my Premiers, and Beverley's. I use a quarter or nickel now.
Mike,
I have 2 of these tools and they are the best!
I highly suggest all of you grab one. It has a regular drum key, slotted drum key, screwdriver, wing nut tightener and 7/16 wrench for consolette bolts. A must for any vintage drummer, I say.
I haven't tried the Cordes key (what are the odds?) but Sonor keys don't have a good fit with Premier slot heads. It is a drag that Premier keys are so pricey. There was a flat steel Olympic version that fit Premier keys quite well.
Alternatives I have tried (screwdriver, quarter) have been hard on the edges of the slot.
God luck.
I look at this from the poor mans perspective. I'd take a regular cheapo key that fits well and drill a hole thru it and insert a steel pin. Done deal. If the T rod heads are round (?) open the square in the key with the correct size drill bit first.
