Different heads?

A drum sound can be manipulated & personalized in many different ways. I wouldn't even bother w/ someone else's sound sample. I like the sound of all the Camco eras( Oaklawn, Chanute, LA). One thing to look out for is cracked lugs around the tension rod insert.

Unfortunately I am in France and the kit is in the UK.

But I think the seller is trustfull. I bought him already some stuff, no problem.

I have an opportunity for à Ludwig Classic Maple for the same price. Camco would be a better choice?

pollux..., There is no telling what the better deal is w/ out details of construction, condition, size & finishes. Some eras of Ludwig construction are much better than others, some finishes are more desirable for each company. Are both sets the same size & condition ? Camco drums must be carefully inspected at each lug, to check for cracks & lifting around the tension rod inserts.

Camco LA's up to and including the Tama takeover are all excellent. I have the Camco/Tama transition kit (1979)...Awesome!

I played an LA Camco jazz kit,20 12 14 about the same time I purchased a Rogers 1967 kit,same sizes,and I thought the Camco was pretty close to the Rogers,more so than a ludwig or sling of late 60's early 70' era

On this side of the pond a good condition Camco LA kit would bring a bit more than a Luddy CM, all things being equal.

An LA Camco has got be a lot scarcer than a Classic Maple no matter where you are, as long as you pay a fair price for the Camco you should be able to re sell it no problem.

If you decide you prefer a Classic maple later you should be able to find one used much more easily I would imagine.

Camco set, much cooler, more cache, will appreciate in value. Ludwig will depreciate rapidly. ( However, in the end, one should go for the better voice).

I listened to some 60s Rogers on YouTube today and LOVED how they sounded.

I think I should switch my toms heads from coated emp to coated amb.

These days I prefer a dryer sound and the coated amb. seem to correspond to what I AM looking for.
