Oops! Screwed up the finish a little so I decided to strip the paint and start over ......grrrrrr!

I've now got a nice sanded shell and I'm thinking of trying an oil-based paint next time.......Nitrocellulose lacquer?????

I've come up with this after the Harlequin wreck. I've got pure tung oil on the drum now....shaded with some oil base Walnut shade stain. Taped off the centre because of the nail stains from the re-ring inside. I'll be stain-block primering before adding an oil base (art supply) paint. The difficulty now is chosing a colour for this mid-section. right now I'm thinking a dark gloss Walnut.
