Yesterday I was called to look at a late 40s, early 50s WFL Gold Duco two piece set up. I believe the bass was 24x14 and the snare 6x14. OK, so I admit I blew it on this one, being as how excited I was to see these drums which, being what they are ... are nothing to be excited about. Except for the following....
Purchased after 1948 and before 1953, they were played very little as the original owner lost his thumb and two fingers in an accident in 1953 and could no longer play the drums. I asume the 1948 date as these have the gold WFL brass badge. The drums are covered in dust, with original heads in excellent shape and holding tension. Bowtie lugs. Everything amazing. Upon examining the BD hoops I found there is no evidence the claws have ever been moved from their original positions. I carefully removed some dust from the hoops as well as from the shell itself and found an absolutely dead mint perfect finish. No chips anywhere in the paint and no indication of a mark on the drums anywhere. I believe these drums will clean up and look like they are virtually brand new. The pic below is not very good.... but I will try to get better pics of this set, if there is any interest here. They are for sale to a good offer.
Also present is a WFL sound block, a cowbell, and it doesnt readily appear they have ever been off the drums. There are a set of Zilco hats (which I believe were only produced from 1968 -70). And those are in excellent shape. The original owner must have taken these out of the closet once in a while and made an attempt to play, but seriously not very much.
