I got this snare with a concert tom kit last week. It was pretty dirty but complete and sound. She came up good with a bit of elbow grease. There is a small dent behind the throw and behind one of the lugs but otherwise it's very nice. A very cool drum and very seldom seen over here. The kit was about 10 mins from me and I'm in a pretty small town even by our standards. The things that show up.

The kit is a 70s concert tom kit 22/13/14/18 but someone added a Pearl tom mount. The original tom hardware came with it though. It was probably a practical solution when it was done as some of the Rogers tom mounting collets have little splits and won't hold properly. I am going to install a metal plate over the holes in the BD and reinstall the Swivo hardware. Still undecided whether to convert the concert toms to double headed. The mounting hardware on the toms is installed very close to the top head so it'll always look like a 70s kit I guess. Any input on this would be appreciated.

Very nice restoration. Those dents are common on the throw-off, only because most people didn't know how to set up a Dyna properly, thinking that the snare bridge needed to be taut like a regular snare wire, not so with the COB Dynas, hence the denting.

Fixed very easily with a soft rubber mallet, a piece of plywood and a thin blanket. I've done it many times on the Dynas I've restored.

Kudos!!

That Dyna turned out great. Too bad for the bass drum, but you could get two metal plates fabricated to cover up the two Pearl mount holes. The plates could be drilled to accept an original Rogers tom mount. One plate on the inside of the shell, one on the outside of the shell and the Rogers mount over top. You could even round the corners to make it look like a bigger Rogers mount. This is if the wrap is in good condition and you don't plan on re-wrapping.

Do the concert toms have the bottom bearing edges and what's their condition? This will determine if you should install bottom hoops and heads.

Thanks for the compliments. I'll have a go at working out the dents.

Thornbeck- that's exactly what I'm planning to do with the BD. I friend is going to fabricate the plates. Obviously the toms have Pearl hardware too but the original Swivo mounts cover the extra holes. The toms don't have bearing edges so I'd have to have some cut and get some lugs. Of course concert toms could make a come back.

I've often wondered about those dents. I thought maybe they were caused by the drum being dropped on the throw off but there was never any damage to the throw off which you would expect...mystery solve, thanks.

Fayray, nice job on the Dyna it looks fantastic!

Bruce Felter told me many years ago the small pedestal mount made these impressions from being hit or dropped, which I personally find a much more plausible explanation. I mean how hard would you have to tighten the snares to achieve this? I've repaired my share and they all looked dropped to me $00.02
