Leedy COB snare Last viewed: 17 hours ago

Picked this up recently. It's a 14x5" COB Leedy snare.

Prior owner took liberties with the drum, replacing the throwoff with a P-83. Makes it a player for sure, but for $120 I didn't care.

The hoops are an interesting shape where you would normally see the bend of a 3rd flange. They fatten to a rounded top, looking almost like small diecasts.

Well, shoot. I can't add pictures. The "Insert Image" icon only accepts Web URLs, not a local picture path. I uploaded the pix to Skydrive and Flickr, but the forum software wouldn't parse links from either of them. pbbbbbt.

So here's a link to Flickr anyway.

your drum is slingerland leedy era, the rims are standard stick saver rims from slingerland, are they brass? or steel magnet test will determine that for you.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Thanks for the info.

The rims are COS. They don't look like any Slingies I've seen. Instead of curving toward the head at the top, they come to a bulge. I haven't taken them off, but mounted on the drum, they feel stiff like die casts. Hmm.

the closeup pic you provided of the rim I wasn't able to tell from it, I was going by the other pic of the entire drum so it may not be a standard stick saver, but it's a cool player none the less.

The 3-line Slingy COB shell is familiar enough. Love it with the Leedy lugs and hardware. Leedy had such a classy design for all the hardware that went on their drums. Very Art Deco/30's/Chrysler Building look to it. Nice score!

Too many great drums to list here!

Here's my (Slinger)Leedy Shelley Mann COB snare the day I bought it from the original owner. Sounds like it's the same model the OP has. Mine has no modifications, other than "humidity modifications" (aka pitting). Sounds excellent! I agree that the Leedy fittings are very classy looking.

Your rims are Japanese, I've got them on a couple of Apollo toms.

Never play it the same way once.

I have the same Leedy Shelly Manne COB snare and I love it! I agree that hoops on yours are not Slingy stick savers....but mine are...and they are COB. Cool snare, though...play it!
