Leedy Drums Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I just picked up this Leedy kit at Rockin Robin, I traded them that 90's Slingerland green sparkle kit. As you can see, it's not all original, it has a Tama tom holder and arm that actually work quite well, Ludwig fold out kick legs and floor tom mounts. The t-rods are missing as well. I initially thought this was a black wrap, but it turns out it's a black laquer finish. I don't believe it's original because the interior is painted black as well, but you can tell it was professionally done. I love the Leedy lugs and the kit sounds great, perfect for smaller gigs, thanks.

Leedy drums, because of the lugs, always look so classy to my eyes. It's a shame the last guy added that TAMA mount to the bass drum, but if it works... I learned on a black lacquer kit so I love black drums. Mic'ed up those are going to sound killer. Nice score.

Too many great drums to list here!

Mark, this is Slingerland era Leedy so you have Slingerland shells with Leedy/Slingerland era lugs, it is a beauty.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Ya, I knew it was a 60's era kit. You know what, there are no extra holes, besides where the Tama mount is. I was expecting to see holes in the kick where the original disappearing legs would have gone. I suppose the Ludwig mounts on the floor fit into the existing holes.

the original hardware holes wouldn't have been that large so yes the ludwig hardware wouldn't be that evasive. It is a sweet looking kit. I would rather have this than any new kit to play.

I always liked those lugs too. It's a shame Leedy got treated like the ugly step child by it's ownwes towards the end.Leedy, when owned byU.G.Leedy was pretty innovative back in the day.Nice looking kit.

According to the catalog, yours is the Shelly Manne Outfit.

If you look up Shelly Manne on YouTube, there's at least one video of him playing at his L.A. nightclub on a black set that looks quite like yours.

That is one cool drum set.

The "last guy" to own the set did not install the Tama harware. I was that last owner. I bought these great drums from a man who had this drum set in his recording studio in Colorado. The only change that I made to se set was to install the gold sparkle inlays to the empty inlay channels of the hoops. I loved that little set that I used with a matching Rogers Luxor snare drum. I traded the drums to Rockin Robin for another great drum set. I was prepared to hate the Tama tom mount, but ended up loving the way it works. Congrats for giving those drums a good home.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Do the toms have the usual Slingerland round bearing edges? I'm asking because I have a 1962 dated Slinger/Leedy 18/14/12 and the toms have the typical Leedy 30 degree edge cut.
