I have a set of 1959 Leedy/Slingerlands. I'm trying to figure out if the finish is original on them.

They are 20/12/14 sizes and are covered in a solid black finish, like a Ludwig black cortex finish.

I haven't seen this finish in any of the Leedy drum finish listings.

Anyone know if it is correct or a re-cover?

"Black Beauty", a solid black wrap, was listed in the Leedy catalog #62 according to Rob Cook's Slingerland book. Some features for Leedy or Slingerland were available in years when they were not in catalogs.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
