Leedy Snare Drum - Engraved - 1920's Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

I have an old snare drum that I would like to know more about. It

is marked Leedy, Indianapolis Ind on the hoop. It is engraved with

a flower design and I think it is from the late 1920's, because it has

a speedway throwoff. The shell is gold or brass colored and the hoops

and hardware appear to be nickel.

As you can tell, I don't know a lot about drums, but thought this

was a good place to come. I would like to get an idea of the drum's

history and value.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Nice drum. I've had a couple of these - In prestine condition, these run 800-1200 - That being a black elite. I'm not sure if your drum never had the finish applied or was stripped but i would value it at 450-650 assuming there are no extra holes or issues.. but hey, its vintage drums - you never know.

Good luck!

I tried to do some research about the drum before I had the nerve

to make a post. I was hoping for some more information about

the history of the drum, since this seems to be the place with all

the vintage drum experts. I appreciate any and all help.

Mid-1920s 5x14 Leedy Black Elite with nickel plated hardware...the shell should be cleaned and given a protective clear coat, the hardware will clean up and polish up nicely.

Why don't drum makers use lugs with mounting screws on the outside like this anymore? Classy.
