Hey Guys,

Can anyone help me out with my latest find. it has 6 tube lugs, gut snares, stick save hoops with (leedy Indianapolis engraved on it) and it has slotted tension rods. I haven't given it a clean or tune yet. I will do that later in the week, its not too heavy or light weighs about the same as my acrolite.

I found it in a local pawn shop near my work.

i'm not up on leedys as much as i'd like to be. maybe a utility model?

leedy was in Indianapolis in the 20's. tube lugs went away on the leedys in the mid 20s? I think they were the first to go to the self aligning lugs after that. that's definitely a utility strainer. so, maybe early 20's?

Hey thanks Mike, I thought it was late 20's at least. Its a nice little snare and the lugs like they are nickel and the shell has a tinge of yellow/gold in it. I will give it a clean up this week and a grease with some new heads and see how it sounds.

Could be anywhere from the 1920's up until WWII. That model was long running.

I think the shell is brass, the hoops are heavy (could be steel) the tube lugs could be nickel. The strainer works perfectly and engage the snares without any hassle and the tuning rods move rather smoothly. Can't wait to play it at next rehearsal, to see how it sounds.

Oops....I missed that little detail. Then, it would be pre-1930.

Nice find, considering your location too.

I also came across a Leedy snare last year that I have since sold. I didn't know what it was at first given my ignorance then.. See this http://vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=35130

Stick Savers were Slingerland triple flange hoops with the top flange rounded inward to the drum head. They were used on Leedy drums after Slingerland purchased the Leedy company in 1954 from CG Conn.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
