The ad states by the serial number it is a 1943. they didn't have serial numbers back then it would be stamped inside the shell. it would be in large black stamp and look like this 4309 first the year then the month. I can't tell what strainer it has? can you get any other pictures of the drum? what is his asking price?

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

1943 does not sound right. That would place the drum right in the midst of WWII. However, at that time, Leedy was only producing the wooden lug Dreadnoughts.

Erm... 290 Eur should be around 400 US dollars.

How easy is to find that snare in Austria? Here in Spain the vintage market is small and tends to be very overpriced.

Ok, slow down here...

1. That badge was used from 1930 to 1948! So the drum -is- from the period advertised. It may not be a drum that was made precisely in 1943, but it's from that era.

2. As it sits, that drum is worth anywhere from US $400. to $600. (giving it a good pricing range.) if it was for sale here in the US.

You are in a country where these drums are even rarer than they are here at home. $400 in US funds is a fair asking price for the drum -here- in the USA. In Austria, it's a stone-cold bargain price. I have no clue why you've hesitated to buy it at such a great local price in favor of having a chin-wag about it with us.

Buy it! It's a BARGAIN considering the rarity of the drum in your home country.

Just my two cents...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

There were actually three different versions of that badge. The earliest one says "Elkhart, Indiana", followed by "Elkhart, Ind."

Then came the one with blue lettering over aluminum. The last version had a more stylized script (1949-50).
