I am new to this forum but already feel at home.
just a brief history...
ive grown up playing drums.
my father has also done the same.
included in the attachments will be a picture of him in his "marching uniform" for Junior high School (60's)
He purchased a Ludwig Set around 1976-77 from Strings n Things in memphis, Tn.
This set is Marine pearl.
ive grown up banging on the set and as i got older also picked up percussion.
My Dad was in a band in the 70s called Wild taxis.
The band featured a backup female singer which would later introduce my mother to my father and the rest is history...
about 13 years ago we went to visit my dads old back up singer who still lives in TN.
While visiting, she had mentioned that her brothers drum set is still located in her Mothers basement and wanted to give them to me as they havent been used in 30 years. (she had no clue what the drums were other than them being old and from the 70's)
"Wow, a set of Vistalites" my father says as we both walk down the stairs into the basement to see 3 DUSTY boxes full of Drums, Hardware, accessories.
We then proceed to dig through the boxes to see what goodies we just aquired (for free)
Full of Ludwig Cymbal stands, 2 snare drums (no vistalite snare ) a 5 piece Roto Tom set (with stands) and the set of Blue Vistalites.
Since then i have just been storing the drums (as i was about 14 when i got them) i didnt really have a place to put them. My dad had a studio set up but i would always play on his kit (the marine pearl ludwig)
now that i own my own house i have created a "studio room" which gives me a place to set up the drums.
We Both still have our Ludwig Drums and play them regularly.
He still plays his kits several times a week in a Rock Band.
He recently took his kit to the studio to record with. Its been over 30 years since they were played in a studio enviroment which brought back a lot of memories for him.
Im thankful to have had such a "Cool Dad" growing up with great taste in drums which is why i labeled the thread "Like father Like son"
I wanted to include a breif history about My family, Myself and Percussion to share with the forum as some might enjoy!
