Location Of Slingy Bd Badges & Mounts Last viewed: 6 hours ago

What is the "correct" positioning of a Slingerland Set-O-Matic mount on a bass drum? Should it be in the "center" of the shell, closer to batter side head or closer to the resonant head? I ask because it seems like I've seen them installed in all three areas for some reason.

I've also seen Slingy bass drums where the badge is installed on the shell closer to the drummer than the Set-O-Matic mount. Is it just my "one good eye" playing tricks on me?

Depending on what kind of double tom mount was used they changed the location of it, I think. The Super Set-O-Matic was very heavy and large, as opposed to the regular Set-O-Matic, and needed to be mounted up front as I recall.

My Slingerland bass drum from the late 60's with a double tom mount places the badge closer to the drummer (batter side) with the badge facing the drummer. My early 60's (62) bass drum with the rail consolette has the badge top dead center facing the crowd. There's my input from my bass drums on badge placement but your question was about Set-o-matic mounts which you know (Old School) I have the older slide on type. Which insistently works great for a single 8x12 tom. Not so sturdy with 9x13 and 8x12 toms. Rogers Swivo-matic double tom holder was so much more sturdy.

I'll measure the distance from my front head to the center of hole and post it for you tonight.

Depends on what year it is. Some were towards the front. Some towards the back.

1969 shows it towards the front. 1976 shows it towards the back.

Here's some pics. The Blue Agate is a 68 (20). The Mahogany is a 71 (22). The Oak is a 79 (22).

Hope this helps.

This is the measurement from the players side hoop to the mount.
