Looking for a Ludwig 3-ply kit for my young son Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Posted this in the Wanted forum, but figured I'd post here as well to get some more exposure.

I play my 24/13/16 3-ply kit pretty high, and my 9 year old son is getting tired of having to ask me to adjust them every time he wants to play.

He has been earning money any way he can, and has decided that he wants to buy a drum kit for himself.

After playing a few of the usual starter kits, he said to me "these don't sound as good as yours". He understands how new gear tends to depreciate, and that vintage gear can also be an investment. What better way to reward a young tone snob, than with his own 3-ply kit?!

So, with that in mind, I am looking for an affordable players kit in good working condition. Affordable is key, so matching serials and wraps are not important. Let me know what you've got!

Here he is at 8 years old: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hb9vD4-Zs68&hd=1[/ame]

Thanks in advance!

Awesome vid!

My suggestion, look for late 60's early 70's orphan drums, the later 3ply shells wrap doesn't go into the shells joint, so they will be easier to wrap them to match.

While a downbeat set ( 12" Tom, 14" floortom, 20" bass) would be a smaller set sized better for a kid, 14" floor toms cost a fortune!

Building a set of orphans from shells or drums with peeling wrap, extra holes, ect. would be the way to go. Try to get semi complete drums, because buying lugs, screws, tension rods and rims will cost a lot more a la carte'.

making a players set from some drums about ready for the scrap heap, is about the best thing you can do.

I like Drums...

1972 Slingerland 85N Pop outfit Light Blue Pearl
1976 Ludwig Vistalite clear
