Look inside the drum for a date stamp -very likely has one.

When I put new heads on it (old ones torn) no numbers inside drum. Also old heads said Weather Master by Ludwig.

well, okay then...the next step is to go to the top of the page and click on the pull-down menu that says "Visit our Partner Websites" and then click on "Vintage Drum Guide"

from there, navigate to the section on "Ludwig snare drum catalog pages" and scroll down until you get to the one that most looks like yours. Yours has the single tension but it also has the more modern throwoff -as opposed to just a thumbscrew strainer. That suggests late 40's/early 50's era to me. I would use that as a starting point.

The paint scheme is a bit unusual and was probably custom done (by Ludwig) to meet the requirements of some school colors or club colors, etc. -so you won't find an example of a drum in that color in the catalog references (at least I don't think so!)

My best guess is that it is a "New Prep" parade drum from somewhere around 1945-1947. There isn't a particular reference catalog for the years between 1942-1948 in the Vintage Drum Guide section, but the 1948 catalog shows a New Prep that is in the natural mahogany finish and offers and option for a painted finish. The only difference is that yours has the slightly earlier tacked on "juvenile" badge. So...I think that your ballpark is mid-late 40's.

If it has six lugs then it's a New

Prep. If it has eight lugs, then it's a "Legionaire" model.

Thanks for your help...It has 10 lugs, and the catalog from 48 matches the badge, but not the lug count and the throw off is not the same...hmmmmmm also matches 1950 catalog on badge, but not throw off

the throw off is a p83 strainer that dates from 1959 till the late 60's this obviously has been a replacement for your original strainer

In that case, I can only assume the drum is from the earlier 40's because of the badge style.
