Looking for help to identify this snare Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Trying to figure out what I'm looking at here- Seller has no idea. Hoops appear very thick, likely cast. Note the tention rods sit between small nubs on both top and bottom hoops. The snare appears to be held in place with some sort of clip which is not attached to the shell.

What is it?

More pictures would help. Any markings on or inside the shell?

I've posted a couple more pictures, hoping that someone can identify this snare. There don't appear to be any markings. This one has me stumped because there is no strainer, and no holes to indicate that it was ever removed. The red cord is attached to a bracket that clips to the hoop and the black shoelace is tied directly to the butt end. Is it possible that the strainer is missing, but was attached only to the top hoop?

Would appreciate any and all thoughts.

It's possible the strainer (knob adjustment) was clipped or hooked to the top hoop, old field drums and band snares had similar. I see marking on the snare wires, can you make them out? It might give you a clue. Any marking on the inside of the drum?

I've never seen die cast hoops like that, looks very well made. Possibly English or German make.

Interesting drum! The rims are aluminum and "indexed" to align the T-rods. I like that idea! The T-rods are very similar to what Ludwig used a long time ago (20's thru 40's) on their single-tension drums.

Unfortunately, I have NO idea what the brand is. What does the inside of the shell look like?

Wording on the snare wires says Hanna, which means nothing to me. Based on the double row of holes on the butt side, I'm guessing that the drum originally had gut snares.

I'm attempting to buy this long distance and may not get much else from the elderly seller. Aparently it was in her father's house for nearly 75 years. No way I'll get interior pictures. Nice call on the cast aluminum hoops. I've never seen them either. If anyone else has ideas, I'd love to hear.

Thanks

jim

Didn't some of the Duplex drums have Aluminum Hoops?I seem to remember that some or one of the smaller American Drum makers used aluminum hoops.
