Here's a pic of a standard snare lug, that literally tore apart. I have never seen a classic lug do this.
I've never seen that before! To be fair, check out how far the lug screw is screwed into that receiver! Man! You'd have t reeeeeeeallly torque down on that screw to get it in that far. I think that, under more "normal" circumstances, the Standard lugs are fine...but I won't dispute that the Classics are probably the classiest lugs on Earth!
*Edit* PLUS....Notice the type of screw used to attach the P-83? That's NOT the right kind of screw for that purpose. This drum was not well-treated over the course of its life and I am more suspicious of some kind of abuse when I see things like that. It's definitely not the norm for this type of catastrophic event to occur with Standard lugs, in my experience.
*Edit* I'm thinking the guy lost some of the original lug screws, used some wrong screws, cracked the lug housing and then over-torqued the lug screw which caused the cracked housing to finally split. Bright canary yellow was never a Standard finish, so I know the lugs have been taken off. The p-83 is evidence that wrong screws were used in reassembly...etc.
