From Mike Curotto

Does it have "NYC DEPT. of ED. 1970" inside the shell?Mike Curotto

That's exactly what I was thinking Mike. Sounds like a NYC Board of Ed "Bid Drum".

Reducing the cost of a Supra by subbing Classic lugs is EXACTLY the type of thing Ludwig would do for institutional mass bid orders in the old days. Doesn't sound like much difference to the average person per drum, but extrapolate the couple of dollars difference over a few hundred drums, and you can see how this flies.

Myself and John "Purdie Shuffle" here both have NYC/BOE drums. Mine is exactly as a Supra, but unplated, which is what I surmise to be the second-tier price cut for the Supra back in the day, because omitting plating would save more $$$ than subbing lugs.
