Ludwig 14 x 6.5 Black Beauty (needs some restoration) Last viewed: 21 minutes ago

THIS DRUM IS SOLD - SORRY (Can't see how to delete this thread)

I bought this drum brand new somewhere around 1980, and I've played many snares since then. Aside from my Sonor Signature 14" x 8", nothing else ever came close.

If you know this drum, you won't need telling that the Black Beauty model is a one-piece brass-shelled drum finished in black.

I want to be clear about the condition. This drum was lovingly cared for over many years, but I made the mistake of leaving it in storage for too long. As a result, this is a project for someone with a bit of time. The snare mechanism works fine, and the drum sounds AMAZING, but the chromework and the black finish need some tender loving care. The only absentee is the internal damper - I found it rattled, so I took it out and lost is along the way (sorry).

I tried to capture what it's like in all its scruffy glory, but the camera's not great. Hopefully the pictures give a fair representation, but if you're within driving distance I'm happy for you to inspect the drum.

If you're into digging out history, the serial number on the badge is 1933759.

I have kept track of the prevailing prices for these drums - both mint and wrecked - so I'm aware of its value. These come up every so often and I've seen some silly prices, anything from £1000 up to £2000 (which is madness - I'd want a half-decent car for that).

I'm asking £500 or nearest offer because I think it's fair, and it will allow someone to do a bit of work on it and will hopefully still represent good value.

Why am I selling? Well, I've just sold a classic Sonor Signature kit, and I was going to hang onto this snare, a drum which has considerable sentimental value to me, but I just fancy starting afresh.

The drum is on Gumtree just now if you'd like to see pictures.

(And if you're not into vintage drums, please don't contact me to tell me it's too expensive. I'm not desperate to sell, and if I don't find the right buyer, I'll just keep it.)

Hi, everyone, and thank you for all of the responses.

Someone has now paid a deposit, so the drum is all but sold.

Should anything change I shall repost. Thanks again.
