Ludwig 18" Club Date Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I work at a high school and Friday a student came up to me who knew I messed around with vintage drums. He told me he was picking up some drums over the weekend and that one was an old slingerland he thought. He contacted me via FB over the weekend saying he had picked up the drum and it was actually a Ludwig. He posted some pics also. He had a BDP club date. He said he'd bring it to school to show me. Well today I walked around the corner of a hallway at school to see this boy holding onto a club date bass drum alright but it seemed very small!!! Oh yes it is an 18" club date! In beautiful condition! Two holes on top where the rail mount was I assume. Inside has clear interior and date stamp '68. Made my day! Just had to share.

I told him I'd try to help him sell it so if there is any interest send me a PM.

Eric - !!!!! Why don't you snag it for yourself?

Any 60's Ludwig 18" bass drums (factory original, not converted floor toms,) are rare and valuable drums. A 60's 18" Luddy bass drum is one that I would invest more money into by building a kit around it! Even an orphan re-wrap kit with a keystone 18" bass drum would pay for itself in the end. Buy it for yourself! Build a bop kit!!!

John I want this thing bad! I do! But I don't have that cash for this right now. This kids about to graduate and could probably use the money for school or what have you, so I just wanted to try and help advise him so he didn't sell it for a $100 or something.

This thing is super nice shape. Only missing what I think would have been the rail mount. Very minor scrapes and scratches and the chrome looks super.

Wow! That's awesome. I think a lot of us would be interested but I know I don't have the kind of money needed to buy it. It's nice that you are helping the kid out with good advice. You are a good guy!

Just wanted to let it be known that the student put the drum on eBay. I did relay the trade ideas. He isn't in a hurry to sell which is good and may reflect his buy it now price. I'm not even sure he is way off on it. I told him I would probably start it at a $1000 but I'm no expert by any means.

What would you guys sell it for if it were yours?

Wow very nice! Maybe he has found a new way on the side to make money vs. fast food or some other retail job.

Dang! That's way better than I thought he'd do. I figured $1000 tops. The kid went well over that. Congrats on a great outcome.

I'd rub his head and go play Lotto! That kid is Lucky!
