Ludwig 1959 6.5" Natural Mahogany Pioneer Before and After Last viewed: 1 day ago

This was pretty beat up when I got it. I didn't want to sand and re-finish it so I covered the scratches and gouges as best I could and applied a nice coat of wood wax.

The nickel cleans up real nice with Flitz polish. Nothing else I tried worked on nickel as well.

There was so much chrome loss on the throw that it was hard to get it to shine but I did OK, I guess.

Good job!

I have the same drum in a 5x14 but was made in 1960. Mine wasn't in that bad of shape and in fact, looks almost mint as far as the shell goes. The nickle plated hardware needs a good polishing though.

Awesome job! I learned to play snare in elementary school on just such a drum (transition baged too) to my knowledge that drum is still being used with a big orchestra bass drum, a speed king Jr. and an old hi-hat stand to lear "rock-beats" "swing-beats" and "jazz-beats".

I wonder what your drums story is?

by the way I have only been able to find Flitz spray(stainless steele and chrome polish) not the canned stuff. where did you get it?

I get the tube of paste Flitz at Summit Racing. They are local to me but you can get them at SummitRacing.com. I'm sure it's available elsewhere online as well.

I played this snare tonight and I actually had to put a little plop of moon gel on it. I don't like to ever muffle any of my drums but this really needed it, I think. As did other drummers tonight. I had 2 other drummers play it tonight and we all agreed. It's a great sounding snare but it's not quite what I'm looking for.

Oddly enough, my favorite snare is still a 6 lug Pioneer (5"). But this 6.5" shell just didn't do what I wanted. I'm looking for a fat sound (think Stray Cats) and I can't seem to find the exact sound I'm looking for.

It sure looked pretty tonight, though. :)
