Ludwig 1968 Jazzette silversparkle kit Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Hi I am new to this site and not sure where to post. But I discovered I have a Jazzette kit also. It is a 68 silver sparkle with the chrome supra snare. Unpainted insides. the odd thing is the bass spurs are not like I have seen in the pics online and here. They attach into a bracket like the floor tom legs and the tom mount and are kind of L shaped so can be folded out or up against the drum for storage. Look like they are original. Anyone know about these? thanks for any help. I have enjoyed reading threads here.

Welcome. Those spurs sound correct. Could you post pictures? I would enjoy seeing this kit.

I thought Jazzettes only came in wood outer finishes?

The catalog says wood finish only. There are enough wrapped ones around to suggest they were available. If you are a "catalog purist collector" then you might prefer a wood finish. I've got a WMP version (but not the supra snare)

@ mbira: Welcome. The spurs you are describing sound like a different style of Ludwig spurs from the ones usually found on the Jazzette bass (those straight retracting ones as on my kit above). Mine is a 1969 so I doubt the change is some systematic change in spurs based on what year the kit was built. The usual spurs were retracting straight ones before 1968 and retracting straight ones after 1968. Yours could have been ordered with folding spurs. There are always anomalies compared to the catalog.

A few pictures would be nice if you can manage it. We aways like looking at them, and we can tell you more about it.

Wow! VERY nice WMP Zen..

and the beauty of it..a 4 year old could play it too,as the BD is so small .

The 75 catalogue states that the Jazzette was available in Pearl finishes.

Indeed, by 1975 the catalog text caught up with what was happening for some years before. That's one of the reasons I'm not a "catalog purist". It doesn't sit well with me that in 1974 a wrap "isn't right" and when the year ticks over it is.

thanks so much for the responses guys. I have some pics on my laptop that died but the hard drive is still good so I just need to pull them off of that as I don't have that kit setup now. When I found out it might be more valuable than I thought I stopped playing it.LOL that's crazy and I will play it again.

It came with a rogers swivelmatic bass pedal and a speedking too. I prefer the rogers. the high hat stand was standard and a standard cymbal stand too with 20" ziljian A and I think 13" Zil A hihats. That tom mount is not centered on top of the bass it is slightly towards the left from a players perspective.

Nice looking kit Zenstat looks like the tom mount is centered on yours and other pics i have seen. I think the only thing my kit was missing is one bass hoop. I made a solid wood one for it unpainted and no wrap but does the job.

there are definitely no extra holes on the bass so no hole for retracting legs. I love the folding legs so much better than any other legs I have had on drums.

Yes, it's important to get the kit size and the player size to line up. ;)
